Trent Kelly, a member of the U.S. House of Representatives, reiterated on Monday in Rabat his support for the autonomy plan presented by Morocco for the final resolution of the regional dispute over the Moroccan Sahara, while expressing his support for United Nations Security Council Resolution 2797.

“I strongly support the Moroccan autonomy proposal,” embodied “in UN Security Council Resolution 2797,” said Kelly, representative of the State of Mississippi, in a statement to the press following a meeting with Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation, and Moroccan Expatriates Nasser Bourita and a delegation of U.S. congressmen visiting the Kingdom.

On this occasion, Kelly highlighted deep historic ties between the Kingdom of Morocco and the United States of America, recalling that Morocco was “the first supporter” of his country’s independence.

In this regard, he highly praised the ties between the two countries, marked by “250 years of partnership and friendship.”
