Danish FM : Danemark and Europe Need Reliable Friend Like Morocco

Europe and Denmark need a reliable friend like Morocco, Danish Foreign Minister Lars Løkke Rasmussen said following his meeting Friday in Copenhagen with Morocco’s Minister of Foreign Affairs Nasser Bourita.

Speaking to the Danish press, Rasmussen said his meeting with Bourita produced positive results, which will be crowned by a strategic partnership agreement covering the political, security and economic dimensions, particularly issues related to climate and investment.

The agreement, he stressed, is expected to be concluded next December in Rabat, noting that the two countries are taking the necessary time to reach an agreement that will benefit both Morocco and Denmark, which will also establish a chamber of commerce.

Rasmussen further said that he discussed with his Moroccan counterpart bilateral security cooperation, particularly the extradition of criminals, an issue that will be further addressed as part of the strategic agreement currently being prepared.

Regarding the Moroccan Sahara, Danemark’s top diplomat reiterated his country’s position in support of Morocco’s autonomy plan, stressing that his country, which is discussing the Sahara issue with Morocco, could adjust its position to move closer to the United States’ position on the matter. “Morocco is our ally on the southern flank,” he stressed.
