The Paks Nuclear Power Plant in Hungary powered down electricity output at Unit 2 on Sunday due to a technical fault, the plant’s operator, MVM Paksi Atomeromu Zrt, said.
“Due to a mechanical equipment fault, the operating personnel are reducing the capacity of the Paks NPP’s Unit 2 by 150MWh from 7:35 a.m . [05:35 GMT] on September 20, 2026. Specialists are working to resolve the problem,” the company said in a statement.
Hungary’s only nuclear power plant is located near the town of Paks, about 62 miles away from the Hungarian capital of Budapest. The power plant is running on four VVER-440 reactors, which generate nearly half of the European country’s electricity.
