The Kingdom of Morocco and the Republic of Mali reaffirmed, Friday in Bamako, their shared determination to inject fresh momentum into their strategic partnership, while Mali renewed its commitment to the Initiative launched by King Mohammed VI to facilitate Sahel countries’ access to the Atlantic Ocean.
This position was expressed in the Joint Communiqué adopted at the conclusion of the 4th session of the Morocco-Mali Joint Cooperation Commission, co-chaired by Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation and Moroccan Expatriates Nasser Bourita and his Malian counterpart Abdoulaye Diop.
The two sides reiterated their determination to further strengthen economic, trade and cooperation ties and to make the Morocco-Mali partnership a model of inter-African cooperation founded on the values of solidarity, respect and sharing.
The session provided an opportunity for both countries to conduct an in-depth review of bilateral cooperation in various sectors and to identify new prospects for diversifying and consolidating their partnership.
The two ministers welcomed the deep bonds of fraternity and friendship between Morocco and Mali, as well as the sustained pace of their mutually beneficial cooperation.
This dynamic reflects the shared determination of King Mohammed VI and the President of the Transition, Head of State of the Republic of Mali, Army General Assimi Goïta, to consolidate the privileged relations between the two countries.
The two sides also reaffirmed their determination to share their respective experiences and expertise, welcoming the technical missions recently conducted by both countries to advance partnership projects, particularly in agriculture, energy, health, education and training.
In the economic and trade fields, they stressed the importance of strengthening exchanges between Moroccan and Malian business operators and welcomed the Business Forum held on the sidelines of the session.
The meeting helped identify new areas of common interest and agree on concrete actions aimed at developing business relations and investment between the two countries.
The two sides also welcomed the strengthening of the legal framework governing bilateral cooperation through the signing of several agreements, while reiterating their commitment to ensuring their effective implementation.
Regarding the Atlantic Initiative, the Republic of Mali reaffirmed its commitment to its operationalization and its willingness to gradually begin implementing the projects proposed under this framework.
The Joint Communiqué highlighted the importance of this Royal Initiative in strengthening inter-African cooperation, regional connectivity and the economic integration of Sahel countries.
The Malian side also recalled the significance of the audience granted on April 28, 2025, by King Mohammed VI to the Foreign Ministers of the member countries of the Confederation of Sahel States.
In this regard, Mali reaffirmed its continued commitment to contributing to the implementation of this Initiative, which is expected to open new prospects for connectivity, development and shared prosperity for Sahel countries.
