Moroccan man dies during arrest in Italy

The Embassy of the Kingdom of Morocco in Italy stated on Monday that it has been following, “from the very beginning and with the utmost attention and deep concern,” the developments in the tragic case that claimed the life of Moroccan national Fakir Abderrahim who died after a police intervention. The 42-year-old Moroccan entrepreneur died as police detained him following reports of aggressive behaviour.

From the outset, instructions were given to the Consulate General of the Kingdom of Morocco with territorial jurisdiction to provide the family with all necessary moral support, as well as the consular assistance required in such serious circumstances, the Moroccan ambassador to Italy stated in a press release.

The Consulate General was also urged to maintain contact with Italian judicial authorities in charge of the investigation, in full compliance with applicable international conventions and the procedures provided for by the Italian legal system.

“It is in everyone’s interest that this tragedy be fully clarified by establishing, with rigor, impartiality, and transparency, all the circumstances surrounding the events,” the diplomat noted, reiterating the embassy’s “full trust” in the Italian judicial system.

“We are convinced that ongoing investigations will unveil the full truth about the circumstances of this tragedy,” he emphasized.

In these painful ordeal, he wished to express, on behalf of the Embassy of the Kingdom of Morocco, his most sincere condolences, as well as his deep compassion and full solidarity with the victim’s family.
