Defense : Algeria obtains US authorization to buy russian planes to avoid sanctions

According to Maghreb intelligence , Algeria ended up confirming the purchase of Su-57E “Felon” fighter jets from Russia after the green light of United States.

The same source explains that Algerian government announced this week that it had concluded a contract with Russia to acquire Su-57

“Felon” fighter jets. According to state television, a first batch of six devices has been ordered and the first two are expected to be delivered this year. Eight more could be purchased later, more precisely around 2028. Algerian air force pilots are now training in Russia to operate this ultramodern aircraft. According to our sources, this very delicate military acquisition operation was able to take place between Algiers and Moscow after Washington’s green light.

The Algerian authorities took care to consult the American authorities before formalizing this important military order. Algiers has undertaken in-depth contacts with Washington to avoid being threatened by the CAATSA (Countering Opponents of America Through Sanction Act), a law that allows the US executive to implement severe sanctions against the defence industry clients of US adversaries, including Russia.
