Spain’s Interior Minister Calls Security, Migration Cooperation with Morocco ‘Exemplary’

Spain’s Minister of the Interior Fernando Grande-Marlaska underscored, on Monday in Madrid, the “exemplary” bilateral cooperation between his country and Morocco, particularly in security and migration management.

“Morocco, which plays an essential part in the fight against human trafficking networks, is a reliable partner of both Spain and the European Union,” Grande-Marlaska told MAP after his meeting with his Moroccan counterpart, Abdelouafi Laftit, which was attended by the the Kingdom’s Ambassador to Spain, Karima Benyaich.

Discussing preparations for the 2030 World Cup, jointly organized by Morocco, Spain, and Portugal, the Spanish official emphasized the importance of close cooperation to ensure the security of this major sporting event. “Sports cooperation boosts the already outstanding security ties between our two countries.”

Grande-Marlaska praised the commitment of both countries to continue strengthening their cooperation in the fight against major transnational threats such as terrorism, violent extremism, and organized crime, in a spirit of mutual trust.
