Spanish authorities have no evidence indicating Moroccan government involvement in the mass migrant entry into Ceuta in late July, Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez said on Monday.
“There is no information from either the state security forces or the National Intelligence Center that would point at the involvement of the Moroccan authorities,” Sanchez said in an interview with Cadena SER radio.
Spain’s cooperation with Morocco in resolving the crisis “has been truly positive,” the prime minister said, adding that resolving the situation in Ceuta would have been impossible without coordination with Rabat .
The investigation into the causes of the incident is ongoing, with the authorities still not having a complete picture of events, Sanchez said.
In late July, the Spanish autonomous city of Ceuta, located in North Africa and bordering Morocco, faced a massive influx of migrants. Spain’s Interior Ministry said that about 72,000 migrants had entered the country from Morocco.
