Burundi reaffirms support for Morocco’s Sovereignty over Sahara

Burundi reaffirmed, Friday in Rabat, its constant and unwavering support for Morocco’s territorial integrity and sovereignty over its entire territory, including the Sahara region.

This position was expressed in a joint communiqué issued following talks in Rabat between Burundi’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Regional Integration and Development Cooperation, Édouard Bizimana, and his Moroccan counterpart, Nasser Bourita.

On a working visit to the Kingdom, the head of Burundian diplomacy also reiterated his country’s support for the Autonomy Plan presented by Morocco, describing it as the only credible and realistic solution to this regional dispute.

He also expressed full support for the efforts of the UN Secretary-General and his Personal Envoy to facilitate and conduct negotiations based on this Autonomy Plan.

In the same vein, Burundi noted with great satisfaction the adoption of Security Council Resolution 2797, which establishes the Autonomy Plan under Moroccan sovereignty as the basis for a just, lasting and mutually acceptable settlement of this dispute.
