Matusik to be head of Capital Court

Tamás Matusik has been appointed president of the Capital Court by György Senyei, presi-
dent of the National Judicial Office. The commission of the new president is for
six years.

Matusik has been a member of the National Judicial Council since 2018 and was later its first elected president.
He was one of the judges against whom Fidesz-aligned media launched a full-scale attack after he met with the US ambassador at the time, David Pressman.

Matusik has repeatedly spoken out in defence of judicial independence and delivered a speech at the judges’ protest rally in February last year.
