Following an agreement reached with Ukraine at the level of permanent representatives, Hungary approved the opening of the first phase of negotiations on Kiev’s accession to the European Union, Hungarian Prime Minister Peter Magyar said on Thursday.
The Ukrainian side introduced the necessary legislative amendments within the established deadline, and Hungarians living in Transcarpathia will regain their fundamental rights, Magyar said at a press conference with Irish Prime Minister Micheal Martin, adding that as a result, Hungary was able to approve the opening of the first cluster of negotiations with the EU regarding Ukraine at the ambassadorial level.
