Hungary accuses Europe of blocking US peace plan for Ukraine

Hungarian Minister Szijjártó stated that Trump’s 28-point plan for peace in Ukraine is a chance to end the war, but European leaders are blocking it, according to Sky news.

The Hungarian foreign minister has been giving his thoughts on the US 28-point peace plan on social media.

Peter Szijjarto said the proposal was “a major chance” to end the war in Ukraine, but that “some western European leaders” were trying to block it.

“Our position is clear: every European politician has a duty to support this plan fully and unconditionally, as this is the rational and humane choice,” Szijjarto said.

European leaders raised concerns about the 28-point plan after it was handed to Kyiv last week, before drafting their own counterproposal.

After talks in Geneva yesterday, the US and Ukraine said they had drafted an “updated and refined peace framework” (see 06.56 post).

Despite being within the EU and NATO, Viktor Orban, Hungary’s prime minister, is considered Vladimir Putin’s most reliable advocate in Europe and maintains warm relations with the Kremlin.
