Orbán warns of high taxes if Tisza wins

Comments made by Prime Minister Viktor Orbán in his Friday morning radio interview indicate that the government’s new national consultation campaign will be built on the accusation that the Tisza Party plans to raise taxes and is making a secret of its plans.

Asserting that Tisza wants to raise taxes, Orbán said this is not a dispute about taxes, but is a question of trust, as Tisza will not reveal what it is preparing to do if it takes power.

Orbán said he has done all kinds of calculations, based on which teachers, nurses and soldiers would earn less and that if a property tax were introduced, it would be a burden.

By way of explanation, he said the Tisza and Democratic Coalition parties are funded from Brussels and would not exist otherwise, as there is a power centre in Brussels that wants to see the opposition in power. Money
is behind the whole thing and the tax regime is affected and that is why the Tisza party wants
to raise taxes, he said.

He told his audience that it is good if taxes are low in Hungary. Orbán gave the interview from a studio in
the United Arab Emirates, having flown to Abu Dhabi on Thursday night.

He said the energy sector, artificial intelligence and major investment projects would be the main topics of his discussions there.

He denounced the appearance of Russian drones in Polish airspace last week as unacceptable. “Poles are our friends, and, despite the political pushing and shoving, we are with the Poles”, he declared.

Orbán then attacked European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, saying her policies are failing. “Hungarian girls have now been raped in Sicily. We are with them and we wish them physical and mental recov-
ery”, he said as an example of how the EU erred in its migration policy.

He sympathises with those who emigrate from a country at war, he said, but it will lead to aggression if they come here.
