
Four people died and a fifth person is still missing following violent floods on Saturday in the village of Lmouawja, part of the commune of Bni Harchen, caïdat of Jbel Lahbib, according to local authorities in the province of Tetouan.
The tragedy occurred on provincial road No. 4704, near one of the main tributaries of the Oued Rmilat, where heavy flooding surprised a light vehicle carrying five people, before it was swept away by waters.
As soon as they were informed, local and security authorities, as well as the civil protection services, launched search and rescue operations, mobilizing all necessary human and logistical resources, including teams of divers, trained dogs, and a drone, in addition to volunteers participating from among residents of the region.
Search operations carried out on Saturday night recovered the bodies of two victims (a 14-year-old girl and a 2-year-old child). The next morning, two more bodies were discovered (a 12-year-old child and a man in his thirties), while the search continues for the fifth person.
In addition, a judicial investigation has been launched under the supervision of the competent public prosecutor’s office to determine the circumstances and causes of this tragedy, the same source concludes.
