Viktor Orbán described his political opponents in Hungary as essentially evil people and told members of his Fighters Club that they will be expected to work hard every day to ensure his re-election, as the organisation ended a week-end training camp at Lake Balaton.
Orbán was greeted with thunderous applause and cheers on Sunday afternoon when he took the stage at the training camp. This was the second time that Fidesz has called together the members of the Fighters Club, founded in the spring, for a weekend.
This time, they hosted 1,500 activists in Zánka, where they were educated about digital warfare by leading government politicians and speakers from the Fidesz inner circle for two days, and there was a party in the evening.
In a speech of more than one hour, he set forth his view that the space for daily political debates is no longer the pub and the market, but the digital space.
This does not mean that the non-digital space has lost its importance, he quickly added. “We will win because it has not lost its importance, and we have a huge advantage there”. “For example, you need a database. You
need to know every voter by name.
You need to get there. There will be mobilization”. Continuing, he said “The game must at least be tied in the digital space so that the advantage that Fidesz has in real life can prevail,” adding that this is why the Fighters Club and the Digital Civic Circles were created.
Stating that “it is impossible to win an election if you do not know all the voters by name, he told his audience that activists should visit voters at least two or three times before the elections, and then during the election cam-
paign, to contact them with all kinds of calls and get them to vote. “Without this, we cannot
win”, he added.
In addition, he said, every day must be won in the digital space as well. “To do this, you need to dedicate at least half an hour to your digital struggle every day”, he told the Fighters. “You don’t have to enjoy it, but you have to get the job done”, he added.
Orbán also told his audience that in the end, having shifted from a digital battle to inperson mobilization, they will be asked to “dedicate every day of the last week to the campaign”. Work must begin at seven o’clock on Monday morning, under the direction of the constituency chairman, and must continue until Sunday evening.
Without naming any opposition parties or leaders, he asserted that “The core of our opponents’ congregation is a congregation of bad people”, adding that he would never say this publicly because it was not his job to in-
flame the conflict.
“A person who has joined the service of a bad cause, is bloodthirsty, aggressive, and wants to intimidate you”, he continued.
To make sure everyone understood the message, Orbán said that in his opinion, Fidesz is on the offensive, while the opponent is on the defensive, so the pressure must be maintained, and the attack must be continuous for the next six months, “they must be ground up, they must be weakened, and on election day the fatal blow must be dealt”.
