Russian President Vladimir Putin praised Viktor Orbán’s leadership at the Valdai International Discussion Club in Sochi, saying Hungary has long represented “nationally oriented politics” in Europe.
“In France and Germany these forces are also strengthening. If they continue to grow,
Europe will be reborn,” he said.
Asked about Hungarian politics, Putin claimed he does not follow them closely but believes most Hungarians want to “remain Hungarian.”
According to him, that means supporting Orbán. “If they do not, then they should support Ursula von der Leyen, but then they will become Ursula von der Leyen,” he added, referring to the European Commission presi-
dent.
In other comments, Putin warned that uncontrolled migration is “eating away at the EU from within” and argued that the EU is only trying to “cover up the cracks” weakening the bloc.
