Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andriy Sibiha will visit Hungary this week, Péter Szijjártó an-
nounced without naming a date.
The government remains committed to dialogue despite strained relations, Szijjártó added.
“Responsibility for the continuous deterioration of Hungarian-Ukrainian relations clearly lies with Kyiv, but we are open to talks”, he said on Monday.
The visit comes after a sharp exchange between the two ministers on social media in late August. Sybiha accused Hungary of being “on the wrong side of history” after Szijjártó announced a Schengen ban on Robert Brovdi the Ukrainian army’s drone commander, who oversaw the attack on the Druzhba oil pipeline.
In his post, Sybiha criticised Szijjártó for prioritising Russian energy over Ukrainian lives, calling it a sign of “moral decline”.
Szijjártó responded by saying that Hungary had not restricted the rights of Ukrainians, but rather Ukraine had eroded the rights of the Hungarian minority in Transcarpathia.
