“Today I met with UN SecGen’s Envoy for Western Sahara, H.E. Staffan de Mistura. I reiterated the clear U.S. position, that genuine autonomy under Moroccan sovereignty is the only feasible solution for Western Sahara. We also discussed MINURSO’s stabilizing role and paths to regional peace. Grateful for continued coordination in view of the forthcoming discussion at the Security Council”, Boulos said after his meeting with the UN official.
Trump’s advisor made the same statement during his trip to Algeria, where he reiterated that autonomy under Moroccan sovereignty is the only imaginable solution to the conflict in Western Sahara.
The United States wants to impose the Moroccan initiative in the next resolution of the Security Council, scheduled for October 31.

Trump reiterates the USA’s recognition of Moroccan sovereignty over the Sahara and its support for the Moroccan Autonomy Proposal “as the only basis for a just and lasting solution to the dispute”.
