Hungary alone refuses to condemnRussian strike on Kyiv

Hungary was the only EU member state that did not sign a joint statement condemning the Russian missile attack on Kyiv on August 27, which killed 23 civilians and damaged the EU office, the British Council, and several OTP Bank branches.

The signatories declared the attack a war crime and vowed to make those responsible accountable, stressing that such crimes only deepen EU support for Ukraine and accelerate the next sanctions package.

The Russian ambassadors to the UK and the UN were summoned after the bombing. Meanwhile, Hungary’s Foreign Ministry has not responded to questions on whether the attacks on OTP branches in Ukraine harmed national interests, given the bank’s ongoing presence in Ukraine.
