Body of Hungarian hostage found inGaza

Israeli defence forces have recovered the body of Ilan Weisz, the only Hungarian citizen killed in the Hamas terrorist attack of October 7, 2023.

His wife and daughter were taken hostage during the assault and freed 51 days later in the first exchange. Weisz’s remains were found during an Israeli army operation in Gaza, alongside an other body that has yet to be identified.

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu ex-pressed condolences and vowed that Israel will not rest until all hostages, living or dead, are brought home.

Foreign Minister Péter Szijjártó demanded that Hamas immediately and unconditionally release all remaining hostages, including Hungarian citizen Omri Miran. He expressed sympathy and condolences to Weisz’s family.

The October 7 Hamas attack killed more than 1,200 people. Weisz remains Hungary’s only confirmed fatality in the current war in Gaza, as Miran may still be among the 48 hostages believed to be in Gaza, about 20 of whom could be alive.
