King Mohammed VI has reiterated Morocco’s resolve to remain open to its regional environment, especially to its immediate neighbors with the brotherly Algerian people, with whom the Moroccan people share deep-rooted human and historical ties.

“In addition to the commitment to consolidate Morocco’s status as an emerging country, I wish to reiterate my resolve to remain open to our regional environment, especially our immediate neighbors and the relationship with our brothers and sisters in Algeria. The King emphasized in His speech to the Nation on the occasion of the Glorious Throne Day.

The Sovereign added that “my position, as King of Morocco, is as clear as it is consistent: the Algerian people are our brothers and sisters; they share deep-rooted human and historical ties with the Moroccan people. The bonds of language, religion, geography, and a common destiny unite us.”

Therefore, His Majesty the King continued, “I have always reached out to our brothers in Algeria,” recalling that He has also expressed Morocco’s willingness to engage in “a frank, responsible, fraternal and sincere dialogue on the various issues pending between the two countries.”

The Sovereign further affirmed that “My firm commitment to reaching out to our brothers in Algeria stems from a belief in the unity of our peoples and in our ability to overcome, together, this unfortunate situation.”

In this regard, the King also reaffirmed His commitment to the Maghreb Union, “which I firmly believe that it cannot exist without the involvement of Morocco and Algeria, alongside the remaining sister countries concerned.”
