The Moroccan authorities have prevented a group of Spanish jurists from entering Laayoune in Sahara. It is a delegation of lawyers from the International Association of Jurists of Western Sahara (IAJUWS) commissioned by the General Council of Spanish Lawyers, with the mission of carrying out work of analysis and verification of the human rights of the Saharawi population, as well as a study of the management of the natural resources of the territory.
According to spanish press, the delegation, made up of the Canarian jurists Dolores Travieso and Flora Marrero, and the technician Silvestre Suárez, had planned to carry out a mission from 15 to 18 March. For Moroccan authorities, its an acte of provocation and attempt to promote pro-polisatio propaganda.
This incident reminds what happened to four members of European Parliament and two of their escorts who attempted to enter into illegally to Laayoune few weeks ago. Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation and Moroccan Expatriates Nasser Bourita said about this issue that anyone who respects these rules is welcome, adding that the law applies to those who try to break them, as is the case in other countries. He noted that such attempts have no impact on Morocco, which exerts full sovereignty over its Southern provinces, as it does over the rest of its national territory.
