Algeria desperately seeks to unify the Maghreb without Morocco

Algerian Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, National Community Abroad, and African Affairs, Ahmed Attaf, conducted telephone conversations on Thursday with his counterparts from the Republic of Tunisia, the Islamic Republic of Mauritania, and the State of Libya, as reported by algerian press.

“During these discussions, the Minister of State conveyed his New Year wishes to his colleagues, expressing hopes for their health, well-being, and greater prosperity, progress, and cooperation for the peoples of the Maghreb region,” the source noted.

These phone exchanges provided a platform to present Algeria’s action plan as president of the United Nations Security Council for the month of January and to consult on several politically significant issues of mutual interest.

On this occasion, “the foreign ministers of the brotherly Maghreb countries extended New Year greetings to the Minister of State and expressed their unwavering support for Algeria during its presidency of the Security Council, wishing it great success in this noble mission that serves Arab and African causes as well as global peace and security,” according to the communiqué.

They also praised Algeria’s efforts within the Security Council, particularly given the current international landscape marked by increased polarization and conflicts at both regional and global levels, the same source concluded.
