Prime Minister Viktor Orbán hosted a dinner at his office Sunday evening for Mahamat Idriss Déby Itno, president of the Republic of Chad, who was in Hungary for a two-day official visit. Orbán held more talks with Itno on Monday, his press chief Bertalan Havasi said.
A post on Orbán’s social media page stated that Chad is a vitally important partner in the Sahel region of Africa in combating illegal migration, therefore the two parties agreed on a complex co-operation package.
Foreign Minister Péter Szijjártó announced that Hungary will open an embassy in Chad’s
capital city N’Djamena, and will launch a €150-200 million loan aid programme for Chad.
He said that the two countries are concluding a strategic co-operation accord in order to combat illegal migration and terrorism.
The government has initiated the disbursement of €14 million from the EU’s European Peace Framework for the development of Chad’s defence capacities, he said, adding that the proposal is on the agenda of the Sep-
tember 26 meeting of the council of ambassadors to the EU.
