Al Haouz: Reconstruction Momentum Unfolds Relentlessly one year after the earthquake

One year after the earthquake that shook the Al Haouz province, reconstruction and rehabilitation works of the totally or partially collapsed houses continues relentlessly to allow the affected families to return to their homes as quickly as possible.

Speed, mobilization, commitment and seriousness are the watchwords of this virtuous momentum, whose top priority is to rehouse the affected families in the best conditions, in accordance with the High Royal Instructions.

Approached by MAP, many households expressed their deep gratitude to HM King Mohammed VI for His High solicitude as well as to the authorities and the various stakeholders who spare no effort to ensure the smooth running of the reconstruction and rehabilitation operation that will allow them to return to their homes, months after the tragic earthquake.

In fact, this operation was launched immediately after the removal of the rubble and the granting of the necessary authorizations, said Anas Al Basraoui, head of the equipment department in the province of Al Haouz, noting that the digging of the foundations and the construction of the structure, the front facades and the roof were also carried out.

“The number of foundations already dug has reached 11,000, which represents 47% of the overall number of houses, while 1,000 housing units have been delivered out of 23,500 houses, or 5% of the overall number of housing units,” he noted.

More than 23,360 houses have been demolished out of a total of 23,500, while the progress rate of works is around 99%, thanks to the combined efforts of the Directorate of Equipment and the Interior Ministry, despite the difficult terrains in some cases.

Indeed, great progress has been made in the rehabilitation and reconstruction of totally or partially destroyed housing units following the earthquake, despite the geological challenges that characterize this region.

Many families approached by MAP were unanimous in praising the efforts made in this regard by the authorities and all stakeholders, stating that they benefit from 2,500 dirhams as monthly aid.

While some of them live with relatives or neighbors, others said they rented accommodation thanks to the aid, while other families said they are still living in tents, waiting for the reconstruction and rehabilitation works on their homes to be completed.

It should be noted that in the province of Al Haouz, out of a total of 27,205 households whose homes were destroyed or damaged, 8,187 households are still living in tents, according to data from local authorities.
