The Tisza Party’s list of 12 candidates for seats on Budapest city council includes six people who are also on the party’s EU elections list, and Péter Magyar is at the head of both.
Among the best-known names on the Budapest list are András Kulja, who has 360,000 followers on TikTok, and Judit Barna, a former member of Fidesz youth group Fidelitas.
The Budapest list also includes Áron Porcher Sommerville, an investment project manager at Chi Fu Investment Fund Management, owned by Taiwanese billionaire Frank Liu, according to 444.
The second candidate on the Budapest list, Eszter Ordas, was denounced by mayor Gergely Karácsony as a lobbyist, because she is the legal counsel of a company against which public transport company BKV launched
proceedings regarding shipping issues on the Danube and tourist boats.
Concerning Sommerville, 444 writes that while it is common for business figures to pursue politics, Liu’s involvement adds intrigue.
Liu, a billionaire, co-founded a €200 million fund with state development bank MFB, res-
cued a meat company, and enjoys close ties with Fidesz, in particular Speaker Lászl Kövér, who facilitated Liu’s Hungarian citizenship and a prestigious award from deputy prime minister Zsolt Semjén.
