Morocco rejected Algeria’s accusations after the legal expropriation of some properties belonging to algerian embassy in Rabat.

Morocco rejects Algeria’s accusations of a planned “spoliation” of property belonging to it in Rabat, considering that they were “unfounded” and part of “a spirit of unjustified escalation”, a diplomatic source said on Monday Moroccan to AFP.

The Algerian Ministry of Foreign Affairs denounced on Sunday “provocations” from Morocco as part of a “spoliation operation” of property from its embassy in Rabat, after press reports to this effect.

“It is unfounded, it contains many erroneous allegations and it presides over a spirit of unjustified escalation,” a Moroccan diplomatic source reacted to AFP.

According to this source, the Moroccan Ministry of Foreign Affairs, as part of an expansion project, purchased premises left behind in 2022 from Algeria, after the embassy moved. vacant on the land of this representation, and adjacent to the offices of the ministry.

“This is not a subject that Morocco has dealt with on the sly, but on the contrary in complete transparency and in direct contact with the Algerian authorities who responded,” this source told AFP, adding that the procedure was “ at a standstill today because Morocco is not in a logic of escalation.”

The Moroccan ministry has taken similar steps with other foreign representations in the district to expand its premises, this source said.

Algiers broke off diplomatic relations with Rabat in August 2021, denouncing a series of “hostile acts” by its neighbor, particularly concerning Western Sahara and normalization with Israel. Rabat deemed this decision “completely unjustified”.

On Sunday, Algeria condemned a “moroccan plan” to confiscate its embassy’s properties in Rabat, describing the move as “a new phase of escalation” from its North African neighbor.
