The 30th Armoured Infantry Brigade’s personnel recently conducted live firing exercises involving the Lynx infantry fighting vehicle in mid-September, as per an article on honvedelem.hu. These newly acquired IFVs are set to become the cornerstone of Hungary’s defense forces.
The transition from the outdated Soviet-era BTR 80s to the Lynx KF41 armored infantry fighting vehicles, procured under the Defense and Military Development Program and delivered to Hódmezővásárhely in October of the previous year, commenced promptly. After completing driver training, the technical equipment development has now progressed to the point where Hungary has conducted its inaugural live firing exercises.
Central to the Lynx’s impressive weaponry is a 30 mm automatic machine gun, capable of firing programmable ammunition with an effective range extending up to 3,000 meters. Complementing this armament is a 7.62 mm machine gun, and in addition to the primary weaponry, there is a remotely operated turret-mounted 12.7 mm machine gun.

During the training phase, six Hungarian soldiers actively participated in the initial round of firing exercises. Their performance was commendable as they successfully engaged both stationary and moving targets while executing both stationary and mobile firing exercises.
The existing inventory of the armed forces, which includes the Soviet-era BTR-80, is ill-suited to meet the demands of a contemporary battlefield.
