Trump’s Senior Advisor announce american consulat in Dakhla

Massad Boulos, Senior Advisor for Africa to the President of the United States, reaffirmed, on Friday, Washington’s oft-repeated support for Morocco’s sovereignty over its Sahara and the Moroccan Autonomy Plan as “the only basis for a just and lasting resolution” to the regional conflict.

In an interview with the Arabic-speaking news channel “Acharq”, Mr. Boulos underlined the clear and unequivocal support of U.S. President Donald Trump recognizing the sovereignty of the Kingdom over its Sahara, recalling that Washington will soon open a consulate in the Southern Provinces of the Kingdom.

The Senior advisor considered that “it was time to reach a definitive and lasting solution” to this 50-year-old regional dispute, noting in this regard the “historic” content of His Majesty King Mohammed VI latest Throne Day speech, in which the Sovereign expressed the Kingdom’s “firm commitment” to the policy of reaching out to Algeria.

Recalling that the UN Security Council is scheduled to examine the issue of the Moroccan Sahara at the end of this month, Mr. Boulos stated that the U.S. is working with “a large number of European partners” towards a definitive and consensual solution to this issue at the United Nations.

“We are, more than ever, very optimistic” about the prospect of reaching a definitive solution, the U.S. advisor concluded.
