Contrary to Monday’s announcement by Foreign Minister Péter Szijjártó, Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andriy Sibiha will not visit Hungary this week. The ministry told Telex that the Ukrainian government has instead sent deputy prime minister for European and Euro-Atlantic Integration Taras Kachka to the talks in Budapest, expected on Thursday.
The ministry did not explain why the plan changed. Earlier, Kachka held talks with János Bóka, Hungary’s EU affairs minister, on the situation of Hungarians in Transcarpathia, Hungary’s energy security, and Ukraine’s Euro-
pean aspirations.
At the end of August, Sibiha criticised Hungary on social media after Szijjártó announced that Hungarian authorities had banned Ukrainian drone commander Robert Brovdi, of Hungarian origin, from the Schengen area follow-
ing Ukraine’s attack on the Friendship oil pipeline, saying Hungary was on the “wrong side of history”.
